DEAL: Get your 2010 Atlanta BBQ Club annual membership for only $10. That’s a $25 value that also gets you 10% at the 29 participating BBQ joints throughout metro Atlanta and a welcome packet including a Georgia BBQ map.

BONUS: Get a BOGO (buy one get one FREE) pork or turkey sandwich and a side, at one of Atlanta BBQ club’s partner restaurants, Rolling Bones, when only 50 people buy this Deal.

Call it luck or a stroke of collective genius: For Bob Herndon, founder and president of the Atlanta BBQ Club and previous National BBQ Festival judge, a church-related mission to help the homeless led to the emergence of Atlanta’s first official BBQ club. “A graduate of the Oakhurst Recovery Program, Anthony Earnest and his wife Cyndi organized a BBQ fundraiser at our church,” says Herndon. “I posted to the church’s list serve that it was the best BBQ I had ever had and everyone started arguing about it.” The group never did decide whether Texas, North Carolina or some other regional ‘Q was the best, but Herndon did decide to spread the gospel of BBQ throughout Atlanta. The Atlanta BBQ Club was born!

And all you BBQ lovers out there should sing that church group’s praises that it did (since we here at MDT are consummate BBQ hounds, we are singing from the mountain top)! Through this exclusive MDT Deal, you get a 2010 Atlanta BBQ Club membership for only $10 and there’s loads of associated perks! For starters, all members in the Atlanta BBQ Club get 10% off at all affiliate BBQ joints all the time. MDT Hint: There are about 30 BBQ heavy hitters on this list! Everyone also gets a welcome package that comes with his/her membership card and Georgia BBQ map.

Okay, so that’s a lot of great stuff but what’s the real perk to membership in the Atlanta BBQ Club? Good eats shared by good friends. Since 2008, the club has been meeting once a month to eat, share some BBQ fellowship and have a good time. “When you meet someone who shares your love of BBQ, it’s like talking to an old friend right away,” Herndon says. “And it really unites guys: We can’t work on cars anymore but we can have fun with fire!”

Membership in the Atlanta BBQ Club can also help you sharpen your BBQ chops, as there is a wealth of information available through Herndon and his cohorts. “BBQ is a craft,” Herndon says. “It’s a huge business but it’s one of the last authentic things left. France has wine and BBQ is the American equivalent in the sense that it really varies by region.”

As Herndon says, “Life is too short for bad BBQ!” Ain’t that the truth! Stay tuned for Atlanta BBQ Club partner restaurant DailyDeals and Herndon’s tips and BBQ trivia coming soon!

And don’t forget to check out the February meeting of the Atlanta BBQ Club this Sunday, Feb. 28 at Relics and Rarieties. The BBQ will be catered by Black Tie BBQ. Check out www.atlbbqclub.com for more details.
