It's an outfitter. No, it's a boutique. Wait, it's actually both! Oxymoron, you say? Not at American Mountain. The hip space in the Vinings Jubilee shopping district carries everything from sleeping bags to sundresses in a smaller, less intimidating atmosphere than some "super-outfitters." Upon walking in, you'll see gear for women, men and children ranging from performance (think waterproof, insulated, etc.) to lifestyle (everyday clothing). But, keep in mind, even the lifestyle gear has properties of the performance gear and, with brands like Patagonia, Simple and others, that means the goods at American Mountain are made with quality, sustainable and recycled materials. "We want to outfit everyone from a kid going to class to someone hiking Mt. Ranier," says Taylor Wells, an American Mountain employee who has been with the company since it opened its doors in October 2008. And, take it from us, Threaders: The store succeeds in that mission. Anyone with an active lifestyle can appreciate all that the store has to offer: Running apparel, a variety of footwear from hiking boots to flip flops, sunglasses for sport and style, bikinis for the ladies, board shorts for the guys and even jewelry from a local designer, Terra Mater.

The store began on (what sounds like) a whim from owner, Bobby Batson. “So when, in the summer of 2007, I was unemployed and restless with a few mountains under my belt, starting an outdoor store sounded like a swell idea," reads an excerpt from the full story found on American Mountain's web site. Fast forward a few years and the store has thrived, as well as expanded to include online shopping, where you can shop from an incredible selection of gear and goods (and did we mention free shipping, free returns and a price match guarantee?).
