Where can you go in Atlanta for raucous, laugh out loud good times? Since 1995, Dad’s Garage Theatre Company has had crowds rolling in the aisles at their Inman Park location.  

The troupe at Dad’s Garage is perhaps best known for its year-round weekend improv shows (Thursday, Friday and Saturday), which garner audience participation and huge laughs. But the Dad’s crew also puts high priority on creating new theatrical work. “Virtually all the work here is created by one of the ensemble members or by one of our upcoming playwright buddies who are doing really cool work that we feel needs to be seen,” says Dad’s cast member Linnea Frye. 

Most of the shows (improv, theatrical or otherwise) at Dad’s Garage are comedies featuring the 14 member artistic ensemble. Case in point: the upcoming Clash Titan Clash! adult puppet show directed by Jason vonHinezmeyer and written by long-time Dad’s troupe member, puppet director and all-around funny man Lucky Yates. Clash Titan Clash! is a puppet version of the 1981 Harry Housen Clash of the Titans film, which features the Greek myth of Perseus cutting off the head of Medusa. MDT Hint: Look out for all your favorite Clash of the Titans characters to appear in the Dad’s Garage adaptation, including medusa, the kraken and, of course, the much beloved robot owl!  

“This is a show I’ve wanted to do for years,” says Yates. “The original is one of my all time favorite movies and until the recent remake came along, the original film had been pretty underground due to its release right around the same time as Star Wars: The Empire Strikes Back.”  

Now realizing his longstanding dream, Yates is pulling out all the stops for the first fully produced evening adult puppet show at Dad’s Garage in quite some time. Clash Titan Clash! includes an array of in-house cameras to project the live show, as well as three Greek gods who are puppeteering the show while interacting with each other. Finally, Yates and the Dad’s crew turned an army of 12-inch figures into mythical Greek puppets for your viewing pleasure! According to Yates, Clash Titan Clash! is a spectacular, low budget spectacular! “It’s big, dumb fun with puppets and Greek myth,” he says.  

In addition to Yates, Clash Titan Clash! also features other Dad’s Garage favorites such as Scott Warren and Amber Nash, the star female ensemble member in the troupe. This is also one of the first theatrical performances overseen by Dad’s new artistic director Kevin Gillese, formerly of the internationally acclaimed Rapid Fire Theatre.   

Clash Titan Clash! opens this Friday, March 12 and runs through April 3 every Thursday, Friday and Saturday night at 8 p.m.
