Eclipse di Luna was one of Atlanta’s earliest tapas restaurants, and it’s still going strong today. And with good reason! There are many restaurants currently serving tapas, but Eclipse di Luna still shines as a beacon of small plate dining.

Why does Eclipse di Luna stand above the competition? The restaurant has built its reputation and its menu around the Spanish influence, where tapas was born. As if the dynamic food wasn’t enough, the live music every night – from jazz to salsa – attracts a lively, diverse crowd.

For those who love the night life, tapas restaurants are never a quiet place, which bodes well for a night out on the town. With an amazing menu and an amazing atmosphere, it’s no wonder Eclipse di Luna has a loyal crowd. There are actually two Eclipses, one in Dunwoody and one at the end of Miami Circle near Lindbergh.

Sound like a party, Threaders? So much so that it makes you thirsty for a cocktail? Mojitos are favorites at both Eclipse di Luna locations. These traditional drinks come in a rainbow of tropical-fruit varieties along with the lime-and-mint original. But to cleanse your palate for the rich, earthy dishes to come, consider the fresh-squeezed grapefruit martini with rose water. MDT Hint: Take it from the MDT family, you can never go wrong with a grapefruit martini! There’s also a short list of wines that makes it super easy to order, even for beginners, since they’re grouped in an affordable, and easily explainable, three-tier price scheme.

As if the signature drinks weren’t enough to entice you, the paella, a classic baked seafood and rice dish, is out of this world! And here’s one difference from tapas in Spain: The portions are ridiculously ample!

The fried calamari is notable for its light, spicy battering and its sharp pico de gallo accompaniment. Guiso de cordero – braised lamb – comes in a seductively earthy tomato sauce, with a chunk of grilled bread that will leave you wishing you had ordered seconds. Unless you’re willing to pick up that bowl and lick it in public, a gesture which might go unnoticed since everybody in the place is having such a good time, you might want to order a second helping of the bread plates to have handy.

There are also several salads and vegetable items, like grilled asparagus and pimiento peppers stuffed with goat cheese. The platanos – those hard Caribbean bananas that must be cooked – are remarkable, thanks to the culinary excellence of the Eclipse di Luna chefs. Trust us, Threaders, you may not have cared for plantains before, but, from this kitchen, you’ll leave wanting more. The platanos at Eclipse di Luna are a caramelized confection, deeply sweet and a perfect compliment to the braised meat tapas you may choose for dinner. You could actually order the platanos for dessert, but then you’d have to forego the intensely thick, rich flan.

Ay, dios mio. There’s the challenge of a tapas menu like that found at Eclipse di Luna: The entire menu is so good that you may just order one of everything!
